Why should I attend office hours?
- To demonstrate your engagement in the class and your commitment to your own learning. This is especially useful for those of you who find it difficult to speak in large groups.
- To receive clarification on course material, assignments, etc.
- To discuss ideas for an upcoming project
- To receive feedback on work in progress
- To provide feedback on how the course is going, what direction you’d like to see discussion take, etc.
- To help alleviate my boredom. I’ll be in my office whether you come or not, and I would much rather talk with you than sit in silence. Please visit!
Should I email you first?
- You can, but I don’t require that you do so. Office hours are first come, first serve, so if you know you plan to come at a busy time—say, the day before a paper deadline—you might try to arrive early.
How often can I attend?
- As often as you like. I hold them for you.
What should I bring?
- Whatever you’re working on at the moment. Bring your class notebook, a print off of a draft, your laptop, a copy of a graded assignment you plan to revise, etc.
